Hitting an enemy with Normal and Charged Attacks has a 60% chance of forming and dropping an Everfrost Icicle above them, dealing 80% AoE ATK DMG. Can only occur once every 10s. Enemies affected by Cryo are dealt 200% ATK DMG. Can only occur once every 10s.
Mappa Mare is meant for damage, while Prototype Amber aims to be a support weapon. If you want to craft a weapon for damage dealers like Ningguang or Lisa, then go with Mappa Mare. Prototype Amber can work for those characters as well if you want them to play more of a support role to substitute for a healer, that can still do some damage through their skills.
From the three available catalyst weapons that can be crafted, Frostbearer gives the highest attack. It comes with atk% secondary and additional damage from the passive. However, there are currently no Cryo catalyst user that can fully utilize the passive. Applying Cryo using other party members won't help because the non Cryo catalyst user's attacks will cause a reaction. It's a good weapon f2p craftable weapon for a future Cryo catalyst character.
On hit, increases ATK by 3.2% for 6s. Max 7 stacks. This effect can only occur once every 0.3s. While in possession of the maximum possible stacks, DMG dealt is increased by 12%.
Provides high damage boost from the passive, and also comes with crit rate as the secondary stat. You need to stack the effect to be consistent with it, so it's mainly good for polearm users that are damage dealers. Offers no benefits for support type characters.
HP increased by 20%. Additionally, provides an ATK Bonus based on 0.8% of the wielder's Max HP. When the wielder's HP is less than 50%, this ATK Bonus is increased by an additional 1% of Max HP.
A weapon made for damage dealers that provides high attack for characters with high HP. The first part of this weapon's attack buff is about the same as Primordial's first part of the passive, but only if your character already has around 20k HP before equipping Staff of Homa. The good thing about this weapon is that it doesn't require you to build it up in the fight, so you can switch to the character and can already deal high damage right away. If you can get to below 50% HP, then this weapon gives one of the highest attack buff out of all the polearms, but managing it can be an issue at times.
Increases CRIT Rate by 8% and increases Normal ATK SPD by 12%. Additionally, Normal and Charged Attacks hits on enemies have a 50% chance to trigger a vaccuum blade that deals 40% of ATK as DMG in a small AoE. This effect can occur no more than once every 2s.
Unconditional crit rate, and attack speed, which is already pretty good, but it also comes with a chance to deal additional damage every 2 seconds when you use normal or charged attacks. The energy recharge secondary can really help for characters that have impactful elemental burst.
Increases Normal Attack SPD by 10%. Increases DMG against enemies affected by any element by 24%.
A somewhat situational passive effect that can be good for characters with a good charge attack. When it's active, your damage will increase by a considerable amount, but spamming the charge attack will end up leaving you with little to no stamina left. Still not a bad weapon to go with since it offers high stats due to being a 5 star weapon.
After picking up an Elemental Orb/Particle, Normal and Charged Attacks deal an additional 20% ATK as DMG for 5s.
Gives Physical DMG Bonus from the secondary, and an easy conditional attack increase from the passive. Definitely the better of the 2 craftable polearms if you want to use them for damage dealers.
If there are at least 2 enemies nearby, ATK is increased by 16% and DEF is increased by 16%. If there are less than 2 enemies nearby, ATK is increased by 24%.
Has crit rate on the secondary, and the attack boost from the passive will always be active when fighting against enemies. Biggest downside to this weapon is that it's only obtainable from the Battle Pass, so refining it can be an issue.
Increases Shield Strength by 20%. Scoring hits on opponents increases ATK by 4% for 8s. Max 5 stacks. Can only occur once every 0.3s. While protected by a shield, this ATK increase effect is increased by 100%.
With only a few polearms users in the game, this mainly benefits Zhongli because of his ability to make a shield. The fast attack speed from the weapon type also makes stacking the passive quick and easy. This weapon on Zhongli can make you tankier and hit harder if you decide to build him as pure DPS, making it a good "solo" weapon because it's pretty self sufficient.
Between the Crescent Pike and Prototype Starligger, Crescent Pike is the better option if you plan on using it for your damage dealers. The passive can really help with dealing a lot of damage, especially if you can properly utilize it by having it up all the time and having high crit rate.
Prototype Grudge is quite a downgrade in terms of damage if you're using it for a main DPS, but it's main differentiating strength is that it comes with energy recharge secondary, which is pretty good for support characters with impactful elemental burst.
Dragonspine Spear suffers the same issue with the other craftable weapon that has the same passive. There are no Cryo polearm users when this weapon is released. It can be a decent option if you can consistenly apply Cryo with your team, but Crescent Pike is often the better weapon in most cases.
